BERKELEY MAYORAL FORUM

A MAYORAL FORUM WILL BE HELD AT
THE HILLSIDE CLUB, WED, NOV 2, 7:30-9 PM

HOSTED BY THE BERKELEY NEIGHBORHOODS COUNCIL (BNC)

“Balancing Preservation and Growth: Development and Our Neighborhoods.”

BERKELEY, CA - The Berkeley Neighborhood Council, a non-profit umbrella group representing Berkeley's many neighborhood associations, will present a Mayoral Candidates' Forum on Wednesday, November 2. It will be from 7:30 - 9 PM at Berkeley's historic Hillside Club at 2286 Cedar St. With the retirement of Berkeley's two-term mayor, Tom Bates, the forum will focus on policy changes the candidates would adopt if elected. The questions will address concerns that are frequent hot topics in the community, including development, affordable housing, and historical preservation. The forum will be moderated by KTVU Channel 2 news team member and Berkeley resident Alex Savidge, and will include leading mayoral contenders Jessie Arreguín, Laurie Capitelli, and Kriss Worthington. Opening with questions from the Berkeley Neighborhood Association, the forum will conclude with an opportunity for members of the community to ask questions of the candidates directly.

Mr. Dean Metzger, the Berkeley Neighborhood Association's president, said the institution regularly organizes candidate forums to elicit candidates' positions on critical issues in the health of Berkeley's vibrant neighborhood communities. “We learn best the positions our elected leaders take regarding the issues critical to protecting our neighborhoods when we are able to hear them discuss their positions side by side while addressing the same set of questions from the Neighborhood Council and from the residents of Berkeley themselves,” he explains. “Our mission demands that we engage the broader community in dialogs with our political representatives exploring the challenges and opportunities for Berkeley's neighborhoods.”
